Our Honeymoon... Finally

This honeymoon has been a long time coming. We have almost been married for a year and we just went on our honeymoon in November! It was well needed and well deserved. At first we couldn't decide where to go. We spent months going back and forth about where we wanted to stay. At first we were thinking about going to the Florida Keys or the Bahamas but sadly they both got hit with nasty hurricanes shortly before our honeymoon. So, we decided on going to Mexico but didn't want to stay in Cancun where everyone else stays. Thanks to my mother, who is a travel agent, found the perfect hotel! Lucky for me right? We decided to stay at the Occidental at XCaret. I couldn't be happier with the choice we made! The Riviera Maya was the prettiest place and perfect for a honeymoon. Not to mention CHEAP! Obviously, we picked a all inclusive resort but otherwise Mexico was cheap.

Our first day there, Sunday, we landed in Cancun's airport and met our car outside. Now here's your warning about that airport... They attack you as soon as you walk out the door. They offer you cars, packages and hotels. Now this is great if you've landed and done have some of those things already planned but if you do it's kind of annoying. But, once we got to our car and started to head to our hotel we saw so much! We saw how the people lived there and all sort of little shops with handmade things lining the road. We got to the hotel around noon and couldn't check in till 3 so we explored the grounds. (little disclaimer we were not dressed for this. Going from 30 degrees to 90 is a shock) Once we got in our room and unpacked we were amazed, by everything, our view was amazing. Dinner was even better! Lets just say I had churros before my meal...

Day two, Monday, it rained... A lot! It was well needed though. We sleep in till about 10:30, which if you know us we NEVER do. After getting up and getting such a late breakfast we met with our Apple Vacation guy and talked about excursions. We decided to book the adventure tour through Cancun Adventures (with a S. There's apparently 2 companies. One with a S and one without) for Wednesday.

Day three, Tuesday, we woke up pretty early and had nothing planned. We'll I love snorkeling and being in the water and its something Andrew has never done so we went to rent our gear to snorkel in the reef they have at the hotel. We were so sad to find out the water was to rough around the rocks so they didn't want swimmers out there but luckily the most wonderful Pro Dive lady helped us get a last minute booking to go snorkeling in the reef about an hour away. I tried so hard to convince Andrew to swim with sharks but it was a complete no. After coming back to the hotel we went and enjoyed a few drinks by the water and the adult salt water pool.

Day four, Wednesday, we went on our Cancun Adventures tour. Oh my gosh, this was fun but also scary. We rode side by sides through the jungle to a giant cenotes. Andrew decided to repel down to the cenotes and zip line into the water. I decided to take the stairs! The side by sides was enough adrenaline for me. We swam through the cenotes for about an hour and they were breath taking. We got back just in time to catch a later lunch and we got the best present from God. A beautiful rainbow that ended right in the ocean infront of us! It was the best gift, ever. A reminder that with all the ugly in the world right now its still so beautiful. That evening we watched a Mayan ritual and went to dinner. Oh, and also watched a show by the resorts amazing team. They redid a bunch of Disney songs... Who doesn't love Disney? I was defiantly fan girling.

FUN FACT: Did you know there are about 7,000 cenotes in Mexico! If you don't know what a cenote is, its a deep naturally made sink hole that's found in limestone. It's a mix of fresh and some salt water because the cenotes lead out to the ocean.

Day five, Thursday, We spent the day at the eco-archaeological park Xcaret. One of the best choices we have ever made. This park has everything! They have the most beautiful underwater river, beaches, tons of wild life, a scenic tower that goes 80 meters high and rotates 380 degrees, a Mayan village, shows explaining the history of the area and the best food! After spending the whole day at the park we went to the room and showered and got ready for dinner. After dinner we went back to Xcaret for their show. It's a show that explains the history in song and dance. They showed us how the Mayans were pretty much forced out by settlers. They also showed us different dances from all the local countries, which was absolutely beautiful.

Day five, Friday, sadly we had to head home. I missed my little ones a lot at this point but we needed a trip just us. We landed around 8:30pm and ran out to see our babies.

Remember I said cheap? Well it was. The most money we spent was on excursions, those were kind of pricey but that’s to be expected. We spent $230 on our Cancun adventures tour and $90 on our Pro Dive snorkeling tour. We were given our Xcaret tickets as honeymoon gifts but those will run you around $100-$150 a day depending on which package you pick. We bought food and drinks which cost us about $5 USD each for meals and drinks. We also bought a jaguar cup with a pina colada in it for 90 pesos. Overall it’s a pretty cheap place to go especially if you do your research!

I have had tons of questions about the things I bought for this trip and the make up I used because it stayed on flawlessly in the water and for the whole day at the park! After the pictures I am going to have a list of the things I bought and where I bought them from below! Don't forget to check those out.

While we waited to be checked in we explored everything to see while wearing sweaters. Not the best idea but that’s what happens when you go from 30 degrees to almost 90 degrees.

It rained all day on and off Monday but it was a well needed day to relax and recharge.

These glasses are so amazing! I was so worried about buying them but honestly for the price you cant beat them. They protected my eyes and I was able to see without having to squint at all!

I made a friend! These little guys walk like tiny toddlers. It was so funny... Well at least to me.

So sad to have to leave but we will be back!

The Kate Spade bag listed above is a diaper bag but it is so perfect for anything!
